Any old Bolt will do!

Found this tom holder was slipping and it was easy to see why. The client had used a M8 x 20 wing bolt to replace a missing one (M8 x 12). As the bolt was the wrong manufactures it meant the threading was very tight but the ball socket holder was loose and allowing the Tom to fall. As it was to long it was going beyond the thread and stripping the threads.

Recently I questioned over 100 regular playing drummers and this was the most common fault they complained of when using backline drums and rehearsal spaces kits.

I removed this, bored out the damaged threads and replaced them with a correct sized Helicoil. New wing bolt was ordered for £3. Total repair was less than £5.

In this instance we were lucky that the tom holder was not excessively damaged as a new tom holder for this kit is £20 (plus postage)
